Manu Chao, born José-Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao on June 21, 1961, in Paris, is a French-Spanish singer, composer, and musician whose work embodies a true musical journey across cultures and borders. Known for his eclectic style blending rock, reggae, ska, salsa, and world music, he is an iconic figure in the global alternative scene, celebrated for his social activism and vibrant, multicultural sound.

In the 1980s, he began his career with the group Hot Pants, then Los Carayos, before founding Mano Negra in 1987. Songs like “Bongo Bong” and “Clandestino” became anthems of resistance, while his acoustic, stripped-down style and poignant lyrics resonated with a global audience.

Manu Chao continued this trajectory with “Próxima Estación: Esperanza” (2001), an album that delved deeper into Caribbean, African, and South American sounds while maintaining strong social awareness.
